Healesville Sanctuary

Monday, 21 September 2015

Over the weekend I took a much needed break from all of my work and headed out for an adventure on Sunday. One of my roommates had asked me earlier on in the week if I wanted to go to Healesville Sanctuary with her and one of her friends.

Being an animal lover, I instantly agreed.

Healesville sanctuary is a wildlife park that specialises in Australian native animal. Since my roommate and her friend are both international students, they wanted to go and check it out and even take part in one of the up close encounters with some of the animals.

Having picked a surprisingly sunny day, we headed out early as it would take us about an hour to reach the park. Upon arrival, we got a tad lost (having relied on google maps) and were sent in the right direction by one of the keepers.

Once there we roamed the sanctuary and took in as many of the animals as we could. With the occasional fun fact from me about the animals, the the others girls didn't know. I think by the end of the day they were glad that they weren't from Australia, with our dangerous animals that hide around every corner. Especially after seeing the worlds most venomous snake, and one that we kinda proudly call our own here down under.

The encounter that we got was with some of the dingo's they have at the sanctuary. I, being a dog person, was very excited about that. They were two of the sweetest animals in the world and were happy (as you can see above) to give you kisses. Something that I miss from my work back home.

It was a nice adventure and an enjoyable day. I really love being able to see the native animals and never get tired of being able to spend time around them.

I would like to thank my roommate Leonie for suggesting the idea and also letting me use some of the awesome photos she took of the day. I was so honoured to be able to share this day with her and her friend, and to see their amazement of the weird and wonderful animals we have here.

May Madness 2015

Thursday, 30 April 2015

It's time once again for me to participate in May Madness. An adventure I put upon myself last year of blogging every day in May. Whilst I succeeded and failed all at the same time last year, I figured I would give it a shot again this year.

This time I am more organised and raring to go.

So here's the deal.

I plan to blog everyday this May. With the possible exception of two day which I have assignments for uni due. Which means you will be getting 29-31 blog posts from me this month.

I am also introducing a couple of blog posts that I would like to begin doing frequently this month, which I plan on continuing on with in the future.

So what can you expect.

Well it's going to be a mix of things, somethings I have never tried blogging about before and other are going to be the same old good adventure blog posts like I have done in the past.

If there are any types of blog posts you would like to see me do, let me know.

Can't wait to share my May with you.

My adventure kit.

Saturday, 17 May 2014

Hey guys,

So I have a tendency to wander around and explore when I am out and about, so I always love to carry a few certain things with me when I do so. Here is a list of things that I like to take with me when I go out and explore the world.

1. A bag.
This has to be big enough to fit everything in it that you need to carry with you. It also comfortable enough to carry around all day.

2. A book.
I always like to carry a book no matter where I am, just in case I need to pass some time, or am on public transport.

3. A camera.
Always having a camera on you a good way capturing things. My personal favourite is a DSLR Cannon 60D or a Olympus Tough. When I have to do photography assignments I will often use a Nikon f-601, but thats because I have to use film, so it was the only camera I could get my hands on that used film.

4. A notepad and pen.
For note taking and ideas, this is another thing I alway try to carry with me as I never know when I will need to write something down.

5. My Nintendo DS.
For alternate entertainment when I have time to spare, I like to carry it around. It currently contains Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which is my game of the moment.

6. Some water.
Stay hydrated.

7. Headphones.
Again for the long trip if you have to catch public transport, it seems to go faster when you have music to listen to.

8. Sunglasses.
Mainly when it's sunny, good protection for your eyes.

Thats mostly it. with the occasional addition, but they are the main things that get put in my bag on days when I plan to adventure.

Finding the unknown in a place I know best.

Sunday, 27 April 2014

Hey guys,
I just got back from my easter holiday break and I had a blast. I don't feel like I really got to relax, like I had hoped to do. But I did get to catch up with a bunch of people and got to have a bit of adventure as well.

One of my friends from America came and stayed whilst we are on holidays, so I got to play tour guide and tourist in my own home town, which was exciting for me.

He had heard about a boat that had a mangrove on it, so we ventured out and found it.

These boats are known as the Shipwrecks of Homebush Bay. They are floating mangroves. These boats were here because it used to be a shipwreck yard. Each of these boats were used in the wars, and now only smaller parts, of each of the four boats that sit here, remain.

These boats look amazing and I found it fascinating that I had never seen or heard of them before. I find it unbelievable that I have never heard of them before. But I am glad that I hadn't heard of them ever before because it meant that I got a little adventure in a place that I know so much of.

We also ate at two themed restaurants. One being outback steakhouse, which my friend was excited about. And the other was Beached Burrito company, my all time favourite mexican place.

All in all it was a good trip home. Finding new things and having fun. And eating lots of food.

Things I have learnt moving out of home.

Thursday, 3 April 2014

Hey guys,
So I have been living out of home now for just over a month and I have learnt a few very important lessons, that I never had the chance to learn before. So I thought I would share my little 'tips' with you.

1. When shopping for food, don't buy just snacky foods, actually buy some decent food, that you can eat for dinner and reuse for lunch. Also try to be healthy about it, no piles of instant noodles and pork buns.

2. Don't annoy your roommates, they may just get you back in a bad and gross way, that will make you not want to go to sleep at night.

3. Find the cheapest version of what you are buying, so that you can save money and spend money on having fun and partying with your roommates.

4. Don't let drunk you write anything down. It doesn't matter what you are writing, don't let it happen.

5. Or do, write an apology letter to yourself for the morning after a big party. This can turn out great and hilarious, and is quite entertaining to read the next day.

6. Expect your roommates to borrow your kitchen stuff and food. It happens, a lot.

7. If your roommate doesn't clean there plates and cutlery, put them in a box to get them out of the way. It gets the kitchen cleaner.

8. If there is free food on campus, go get it. It saves you money and means that you can make your food back home last for just that little bit longer, without having to go to the supermarket.

9. Eating out is expensive, avoid it as often as you can.

10. Keep on top of your work at all times, no matter what is going on with your friends and that one party, that week. It's is a relief to not worry about it.

11. Keep some fun in you day/week, being busy can get a bit too much. So lighten up your week a little, by doing something that won't cost you a tone and won't distract you for too long.

12. Make memories, these are the days you will cherish for the rest of your life. Make those friends and have fun with them.

13. A car is extremely useful, not having one can be a big pain.

These are just some of the lessons I have learnt since moving out. And they are some super important lessons when you are a slightly poor uni student.

Just remember always have fun.

March matters.

Thursday, 20 March 2014

Hey guys,
Sorry it's been a while, things have been a bit crazy and I haven't had much time to just sit down and write anything other than school work. But I am taking this time now to do some house keeping for March. I have a few ideas and things that I hope to blog this month. So I am going to try harder.

1. Blog more
At the beginning of the year I promised myself that I would blog more and that hasn't quite happened yet, so now is as good as anytime to fix that. I plan on blogging a tone more from here on out, no matter what it is about.

2. Notice the ground you walk on
This month I will have been taking a photo everyday of the ground beneath my feet. This was a little challenge I set myself, so at the end of this month I will be making a post with all of those pictures. So that should be 31 days worth of pictures. I would like to do something like this every month, I will just have to figure out a topic every month.

3. Adventure more
I haven't really had a chance top do much wondering since moving here, so I hope that I get that chance soon. When that happens I hope to share it with you guys.

4. Work hard
I never had a good ethic towards learning at high school, so I hope to change that here. I haven't let myself slip behind just yet, So heres hoping that doesn't change. I plan on working my butt off through the next three years of my study. So fingers crossed.

5. Be healthy
Here's another thing I have never been particularly good at, so I plan on changing that.

6. Say yes
This ties in with the adventure more rule. I usually say no to a lot of things, it's just the way I have always been, but the time has come to change that. I am going to push myself into say yes to more things. So I get the chance to experience more things.

So there are a few goals I hope to work towards this month/year.

Project 2014

Tuesday, 21 January 2014

Hey guys,
So 2014 is well on it's way, we are almost at the end of January and that means that we are one month down. I am aiming to use 2014 as a year to change my life, throw in new things and put myself in new situations. This also means starting new projects and doing things that make me happy and mean that I don't spend all my free time sitting around on my laptop (which I happen to be doing now, but with a purpose).

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed this book everywhere and it made me curious. It wasn't until I was watching my daily dose of YouTube that I got a good explanation for what is was, thanks to YouTuber Grav3yardgirl, that made me really want to give it a try.

So my first project for the year is the 'Wreck This Journal' by Keri Smith.

I am hoping that this will help me be more creative this year. I have always had a large imagination and I need to start finding outlets for some of the creativity that comes from my imagination, so I plan on using this for that. I also plan to share some of these pages with you guys, maybe a weekly or month update of sorts, but I don't even know yet.

I am hoping that I can also find out more about myself, you never know what will come out until you are given a task to really think about it. This year will be one of creativeness for me, as I need to start moving away from the place I have found myself stuck in since I left high school.

I already have some big plans ahead for this year (including 'moving' to a new city for a majority of the year) and hope that I can broaden my horizons, for myself and for this blog. I also have a pile of new ideas for this blog that will vary hugely from last year. I also plan on blogging more as I find it relaxing to just write stuff out and send it into cyber space for people to stumble across, so hopefully this will all go down smoothly.

I do hope to blog more frequently, although towards the end of next month it might be a challenge with the massive change that will be happening, but I hope that I get to share it with you guys and whomever stumbles down this rabbit hole.

I hope that you all have a splendid week, see you soon.

Summer to do list.

Saturday, 16 November 2013

Hey everyone,

So for us Australian people summer is just around the corner, even thought the weather in Sydney would say otherwise, and I can wait. Whilst I do love winter, summer is also a season I love very much. It means I get to just hop in the car and go to the beach, and spend warm nights out with my friends. But I wanted to come up with a list of things to do this summer. Things that would give me some adventure and a refreshing view on things. So here are a few things on my list.

1. Go to a new place.
2. Go on a grand adventure with one, or more, friends.
3. Discover a new beach that I haven't been to before.
4. Try something new(whether it be food, activity or a new skill)
5. Redecorate my room.
6. Wander around the place I grew up in and discover new things about it.
7. Visit places I haven't been to in a long time/places I used to love as a kid.
8. Road trip somewhere(anywhere)
9. Make the most out of the sunshine.
10. Catch up with friends that I haven't seen in a long time.
11. Take every opportunity I am offered.
12. Make a list of places I would like to go to, that I have never been to before, and go to them.
13. Hop on a train and go somewhere.

So I hope to make this summer memorable and I hope I get to share it with all of you. I hope that I spend my time adventuring and not sitting around with nothing to do. I can't wait for what ever comes next, but I hope its fun and full of things I enjoy.

Until next time,
xx Kat
